Cute little story about Cassayaki before their wedding. I'm assuming Erin just had Rae about a month ago. Not sure if she should be moving around but was sure she would be...
Erin is GG's, Yukito is Mascii's, Rae sort of belongs to them both, and Cassie is Poppy's. Kagayaki is mine but Poppy's petitioning for join-custody I think. x)
Oh! By the way, this is the kimono. : ) Didn't describe it in there because it's so... awesome and indescribable. xD Enjoy~!
Pale Blue and Green
From what Kagayaki had seen, most people didn't think of being a daycare worker as a very strenuous job. But ever since he'd really proven himself as being good with kids, it seemed like his co-workers just kept calling in sick or taking a day off. And they all seemed to do it at once.
At least the kimono was on its way. It was due to be in any time, and Kagayaki let that be the thing he was looking forward to every day. The kimono coming meant their wedding was coming. And if their wedding was coming, that meant... that meant Cassie would be his wife. Nothing made him feel happier than that thought did.
Well, the thought of kids someday came pretty close, but that stemmed off of it, so it didn't count.
Trudging in from the bus was never really fun. He was too scared to drive often... He wanted to learn to drive, for Cassie, but... no, that would come in time. She would give him strength. But not yet.
It wasn't fun, that is, until he realized there was a package on his step. Kagayaki looked this way and that, a little nervous, then he picked up the package and ran inside as fast as he could. He grabbed the phone and dialed Erin-chan as he opened the box excitedly.
“Oh!” He set down the phone and the knife, taking off his shoes and coat. He rarely ever forgot do that, except on rare occasions. Like his fiancee's wedding dress coming in.
Before he could get back to the table, a voice rang over to him: “Hello? Hellooo~? Niisan?”
“ERIN-CHAN, ERIN-CHAN!” he cried, stumbling over to the phone and putting it to his ear. “Erin-chan! It's here, it's here, it's here!”
She was laughing by now. “Calm down, calm down.... What's here?”
“Cassie's kimono!” he said, surprised she hadn't realized it already. “Come see, come see now!”
Erin gasped. “Oooh I wanna! I'll tell Yukito.” He heard her muttering something to herself. She was probably wandering around her house. “Rae, where's daddy? Oh, Kagayakiii! Is it pretty? Is it beautiful? Is it gorgeous?”
“Yes!” Kagayaki exclaimed, seeing the top of it now. “Oh, Erin-chan! It is!” He pulled it out of the box, his mouth falling open. “Oh, Erin-chan...” He felt out of breath. It was so beautiful! “Erin-chan, it's beautiful as Cassie.”
“Perfect!” Erin squealed. “Yukito! Yukito! The dress for Cassie is at Kagayaki's! We have to go see!” A pause. Kagayaki could only smile, waiting to hear if she was coming. “Yes, now, silly! Now-now-now! It's important!”
Kagayaki bit his lip, hearing talking in the background. “Tell him pleeease?” he whined.
He heard Erin-chan relay his message, then a cry of victory. “We're coming! Pull it out and set it somewhere so we can see it really good! We'll be there soon!”
“Okay!” Kagayaki bit his lip with joy. “I love you!”
“Love you too! Bye!”
“Bye!” He set the phone down, still breathless. It was perfect. It was exactly how he'd wanted it to be. It was exactly why him and Erin had stayed up so late that night, trying to find the perfect one. It was worth it.
Kagayaki took the kimono and a kitchen chair into the living room, setting it up just right so Erin-chan and Yukito-kun would see how it would probably look on Cassie when she wore it. Of course, it would look much better when she was actually wearing it, but... that day wasn't here just yet.
It wasn't long before a knock came on the door. Erin-chan rushed in and tackled Kagayaki first thing, then demanding to know where the kimono was. Laughing, he led her to it, her husband with the little baby in arms following close behind. The look on Erin's face when she saw it, touched it, then stood back and imagined it on Cassie... it was beyond words. She just looked happier than anything.
“Kagayakiii~!” she squealed happily, hugging him again. “I'm so happy for y'all! This is just the most gorgeous wedding dress ever!”
“Next to yours,” Yukito put in. At first, his face looked disappointed, but a smile soon broke across it and showed them he was teasing, making them all laugh. “It is wonderful, Kaga-san. Good choice.”
“Thank you,” he cooed in a low voice, pulling his head back into his shoulders to show he was a little embarrassed. They had spent a lot of time looking for that kimono. And it had to be in the perfect colors: pale blue and green. Those were Cassie's favorites. And it would look so wonderful with her red hair and blue eyes... Kagayaki ran his fingers down the fabric, sighing. “She will look so... so beautiful...”
Just then, someone knocked on the door. They all jumped. 'Who could it be?' Kagayaki thought. 'I'm not expecting anyone...' He slowly moved towards the door, peeking through the little looking-glass in the door. Kagayaki jumped back.
“Cassie!”
Yukito and Erin both got wide-eyed at the same time. Erin stepped in front of the displayed garment, like that would help the situation. Kagayaki swallowed, taking a deep breath and opening the door.
“Hi! Sure took you long enough!” Cassie teased, laughing as she came in. “Look, I wanted your opinion on what colors to do for the wedding. It's like, driving me crazy, and--” She must have seen the nervous look on his face, because she stopped. “Kagayaki? What's wrong?”
He shrugged. “Um... Nothing...”
She sent him a look. “Nothing? Seriously?”
“Um... I...” He glanced towards the living room. Only Yukito and the baby could be seen from where they stood. “I...”
Cassie's eyes sparkled. “What are you up to?”
Kagayaki kicked at the floor. “I... I had a surprise for you...”
She smiled, stepping forwards to wrap her arms around his neck and kiss his mouth. “What kind of surprise?”
As if his heart hasn't been working double-time from nervousness, now Cassie was close to him. “I...” All his air was gone. Great. Now he couldn't say anything. Well, it wasn't as if she wouldn't see it eventually, being in the house. Kagayaki sighed, pulling her hands gently from around him and taking the color cards from her hands. She protested a little, but gently, and let him put them on the table. “Sh...” he soothed, kissing her again. “Come see.”
Cassie shrugged. “Alright, I'll go with it.”
He took her hand and slowly led her to the living room, watching her face but careful not to trip over anything. “For you... for... for our wedding, Cassie.”
Her face lit up like the sun, bright blue eyes suddenly full of tears, her mouth open with words she didn't speak. “I... Oh, Kagayaki it's so beautiful!” She rushed over, feeling the lovely fabric beneath her fingers. “Oh Kagayaki, you... you bought this for me?” Cassie looked at Erin. “I... Oh, Erin, do you see this?” Erin nodded, and Cassie wiped away tears.
“You deserve to wear something as beautiful as you, Cassie!” Erin insisted, her arm linked with Yukito's.
“She's right, Cassie. It suits you.” Yukito didn't have to say much to show he felt the same way Erin-chan did.
Kagayaki came behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. “You... okay?”
“Yeah, I'm fine,” she insisted, taking a deep breath. “It's just... wow guys... I just... wow... Thank you. Thank you so much.” She entwined her hands with his, leaning back onto his shoulder. “Thank you. It's perfect.”
“You are more perfect,” Kagayaki whispered, leaning down to kiss her. “I love you.”
“I love you too...”
“Hey... Um... I see where this is going...” Erin said between, moving backwards slowly. “We'll just... go...”
Cassie laughed, looking over. “Okay. Hey, thanks. I mean it.”
“Any time, Cass,” Yukito assured her as they gave good-bye hugs. “We just came to see you glow.”
Erin nodded, taking the baby for a moment. “Yeah, and Kagayaki. Y'all look like you've caught fire!”
“Well, I don't know about that,” Cassie said, sending a pointed glance Kagayaki's way. He only blushed and held her closer. “But I do know is that I'm getting married to one of the most wonderful men I know, in one of the most gorgeous wedding dresses I have ever seen in my life.” She gave Kagayaki a quick kiss, which he happily returned.
“And that's saying a lot! We've seen some pretty nice ones!” Erin put in happily, handing the baby back to Yukito as she headed for the door.
“Yeah, we have,” Cassie said, fervently. “We really have.”
Yukito and Erin said their good-byes and disappeared out the door, leaving Kagayaki and Cassie alone.
“It's times like this I love you the most, Kagayaki,” Cassie whispered as they swayed back and forth slowly.
“It is?” Kagayaki said with a little laugh. “Why?”
“Because, you did it with all your heart. I love that about you.”
Kagayaki smiled, laying his head in the nape of her neck. “It was worth it.”
“Yeah, it was.”
They let the silence set in for a moment, eyes closed, just standing there together. It was nice to have peace. They'd known empty silences so much in their lives, but now they could know peace, holding each other close.
“I'm so glad I have you, Kagayaki.”
“Me too.”
Cassie moved a little. “Happy you have me, or happy I have you?”
“Both,” he hummed, kissing her neck. “Both.”
Erin is GG's, Yukito is Mascii's, Rae sort of belongs to them both, and Cassie is Poppy's. Kagayaki is mine but Poppy's petitioning for join-custody I think. x)
