Lilith had lived in New Orleans for only a year, but she was trying to make it feel as if she had lived here forever. She wanted to feel like she always had belonged here. It was maybe a sort of game she liked to play with herself, to help her forget how many times she had played it.
Her apartment was filled with junk she had bought and placed in her apartment just so it had looked like years of clutter had piled up. She'd even gone so far as to get a place with a master bedroom, and furnished it as if her parents still lived with her.
As if her parents still lived.
Here she waited for the call. Here she masqueraded as a normal eighteen year old, taking advantage of the resources she had to play her game, barely graduate high school, and continue on with a life she'd successfully torn to shreds.
Because that was the game she played, as easy as the button on her radio.
