Current username: The Phantom of Paris
Character’s name: Shelby Wright
Character’s approx. age: 15 and a half (birthday in December)
Character’s physical appearance: About 5'1". Red hair that is not as vibrant as her sister Cassie's but much curlier, usually seen pulled back into a ponytail. Blue eyes. Usually dresses in hoodies, jeans, and T-shirts. Occasionally wears glasses, has braces with purple rubber bands.
Personality: Even before her parents split up, Shelby was always rather painfully shy. Since then, however, the divorce has proved to be so difficult for her that she rarely speaks unless absolutely necessary. When she does talk, her voice is rough and hoarse because it is used so little. Shelby has shut herself off from the world, preferring the solace of her room to the presence of people that have the potential to hurt her. Meeting Yukito Maki triggered an interest in Japanese culture, which then morphed into a full-blown obsession with anime and manga, her all-time favorite by far being Fullmetal Alchemist.
Two-paragraph sample post:
Shelby turned the volume up on her music and turned the page in her manga, her eyes skimming over the images and dialogue with a small half-smile on her face. She gave a contented sigh as she flipped the page again, her mind absorbed in the story. Shelby was literally worlds away from New Orleans...she was at Central Headquarters with Ed and Al, rolling her eyes over something Mustang had said...
She was where she belonged.
The door swung open then, and Shelby shrieked, the book falling from her hands and onto the floor. "Sorry."
Shelby glared at her sister. "Way to give me a heart attack, Cassie," she rasped, wincing at the strain talking put on her unused voice. Everything was perfect until you had to go and ruin it.
"Sorry," Cassie repeated. "Hey, I TiVoed the newest episode of House, you want to come downstairs and watch it with me?"
Shelby stared at her. "...Not really." Just like all the other times you've asked me to do stuff with you. I just don't want to, okay? Is that such a problem?
Cassie nodded, her expression staying friendly as always, but Shelby knew her sister well enough to know she had hurt Cassie's feelings. "Okay...maybe I'll just call Erin or something..." Shelby picked her book up off the ground and said nothing.
Cassie held out the bowl she had been holding. "I got you some ice cream."
Shelby ignored her, flipping the book open again. After a moment, Cassie sighed, set the ice cream on Shelby's desk, and left, closing the door quietly behind her.
Shelby hopped off her bed and retrieved the bowl. Mint chocolate chip. Her favorite. Walking over to her DVD shelf, she studied her FMA DVDs, trying to choose which one to watch.
With a shrug, she pulled out her season one, part one set and fed the first disc into the DVD player, settling herself down in front of the TV with her ice cream.
I don't need them. I don't need my friends, or Mom, or Dad, or Jake, or anybody. I don't even need my sister. I have Alphonse. As long as I have him, I'll be all right.
