Current Username: My tiny Mustard
Character's Name: Wahei Raiu(in Japanese order; his given name is Raiu). Often called 'Raikun' by his own choice.
Character's Age: 21
Appearance: Light brown almond-shaped eyes, longish black hair with some brown in it, a very calm face that is relatively masculine but not so much as it is the typical idea of handsome. His posture is very relaxed but not forcedly so; he walks, sits, and stands with incredible comfort, no matter where he is. His hands are often found sketching and painting, and as a result of such he has hands that remark an artist. His clothes are unpredictable; he choses them based on his mood and doesn't care if it looks bad.
Most notable physical features/habits: He never gets upset, or angry, or off-set; he just shrugs it off. You could say it was part of his Christian beliefs; he doesn't think there's much that happens on this earth that will make a difference here nor there in Heaven, so he decidedly doesn't sweat it. There's a few things he takes seriously, but he won't press anything too much. He doesn't want to upset anyone and won't get upset. He thinks time is worth more than pretty arguing; he just wants to be happy.
Personal Info (likes, dislikes, traits, characteristics, etc): He is a very calm person – irritably so, more often than not – and prefers to just be honest with you than to hide it and make himself tense. Raiu doesn't want to upset anyone, but if it's your happiness versus his, he's usually more likely to just tell you what he thinks, but don't expect him to seem passionate about it. His honesty is amazing, versus his peaceful manner. He is insistent on the fact that no one is upset often though. If someone gets mad at him, he just walks away. If someone attacks him, he just pushes them away and leaves but does not run. He doesn't want to make people miserable, but he doesn't want them to make him miserable either. He won't be self-sacrificing; he is more selfish than that, but he isn't outright cruel.
He just doesn't want to be dragged down by this world.
He loves to paint with all sorts of materials, but his two favorites are water colors and the idea of throwing water balloons filled with paint at a huge canvas, mostly because they express two ends of the spectrum and he can usually get everything he wants to in those two ways. He is found sketching more than that, though, and he fills up a sketch book in less than a week, sometimes in a day if he gets the right inspiration.
History/Background Information: Raiu's real parents were killed in a car accident when he was very young – about 5 years old – , and so he never talks about them, because he doesn't remember much about them. His adoptive parents were very busy – both of them working full-time jobs – so he was pretty much in either daycare or school his childhood. He grew up somewhere near Nashville, Tennessee; far too close to a big city for his liking whatsoever, but he never spoke up about it. It wasn't his way to complain. During his teenage years, he watched as all of his friends went through their rebellious years without changing a thing; he – for the most part – felt he'd had nothing to rebel against.
Only once did he ever speak up about his situation, and that was when he was 15. His adoptive mother was leaving for work and his adoptive father heading to bed after a long day at work. Raiu had just gotten back from school. He looked around, threw his backpack pointedly on the floor and watched them both freeze in their steps and stare at him. “You guys don't care about me, do you?” he'd asked them. Of course, they didn't know how to react. He'd never been upset before, and he never was after that either. “Never mind.” was what he finally just said, a term that was typical for him. He leaned down, picked up all the papers scattered across the floor, and went into his room without a word.
He considered listening to Heavy Metal music, because he found the music very interesting, but it gave him headaches, so he stopped. Loud sounds send a surge of pain through his head, and so he listens only to calm music for the most part. The closest thing to rock music he can stand is Deas Vail, which he listens to low whenever he does.
He's dabbled into singing, but, since it's not as much of a passion for him, and since no one ever really had the time to encourage him in it, he never went through with it.
He has a rather low self-confidence, but not in the normal sense. He doesn't have the drive; it's not that he doesn't think he's very good at anything, he just doesn't take the time to follow through and give it a real try. It is mostly a problem of motivation; he doesn't think he can do much that he doesn't normally do, because he's never gotten around to trying it very much.
Since he turned 18, he's been kind of wandering from place to place. Now, he's come to New Orleans to try his luck at the college there, which he's heard is exceptional but not absolutely crazy. He wants to go to a good college, but can't handle a huge college. He figures, if LSU doesn't work out, there's plenty of private colleges around there. He wants to settle down and stop running all over the place now, because not having a permanent home makes his life too crazy, which he doesn't like at all.
His greatest fear is to be in the middle of chaos and not be able to avoid it. Hurricanes don't bother him; he can evacuate for those. Storms are natural chaos; those don't bother him either. It's just rain and wind. But it's unnatural chaos that bothers him. He hates conflict, and he hates yelling. He usually avoids what makes him nervous or scared, and doesn't deal with it. That is why his greatest fear is to not be able to get away from it.
He never watches the news; it is too crazy and depressing. He prefers to just not know.
Also, his mother was Japanese, which is why he uses the Japanese order for names, and refers to people by 'kun', 'chan', 'san', 'sama', 'sensei' and the like. He knows little Japanese in all senses; only what he has repeated over and over in his head from what his mother taught him, and a few things he's picked up along his way. He thinks his father was from either Germany or Ireland; he got a different story from each of his adoptive parents, one of who Raiu is convinced really must not have been listening.

Raiu looked around himself, hands in his pockets, shoulders slumped as his eyes searched this place for something interesting. His sketch book – this week it was black, with a hard cover that he really liked, with the spiral at the top that he decided was much better suited for him than one on the side – was tucked under one arm, his favorite charcoal pencil on his ear.
He was looking for something to draw today that would be better than the last one he'd done.
Bright brown eyes fell on the statue of Andrew Jackson. He smiled, looking up. 'You were a real brave guy, weren't you? So go into battle... I can't understand what possessed you, but I guess I'm glad you did what you did. Things wouldn't be quite what they are today if you hadn't right?' He shrugged, sitting cross-legged before his subject and pulling out his tools. Eyes flitting up and down, Raiu smiled in the way he only did when he was sketching. His style, how it came naturally to him now to draw things a certain way, always made him wonder just how far the human mind could reach without thinking about it.
Raiu had just gotten to the more final details Jackson's face when two people walked by him, yelling at each other. He winced, stopping to look up at them with a sad expression. 'What the matter with them?'
“This isn't fair, you can't just leave me like that!” the young man cried, taking the lady's hand as she tried to walk away from him. “Come on, it was a mistake!”
“You should have realized that before! I won't put up with that, you know I won't!” she replied, obstinately. Raiu shook his head. 'Why can't they keep their yelling to themselves? Seriously, my head is killing me now...' “No! Leave me alone! STOP IT!”
That was enough. Raiu got up to see the man pulling on the lady's hand, and her fighting him. He closed his sketch book and slipped it automatically under his arm, approaching them slowly. “Excuse me.” he said, in his quiet voice. They both looked at him, and the girl flashed him a sort of pretty little smile that told Raiu she intended to flirt with him right in front of her lover. Raiu didn't hesitate at this to give her a piece of his calm mind. “Shut up. I'm trying to sketch, and your squabbling is giving me a really bad headache.”
They looked shocked, but Raiu just shrugged, returning to his spot and his sketch. It was the truth.
