Okay...here it is. I won't pretend it's fantastic, but I think it's pretty cute...yeah. This is the infamous Yukito/Erin wedding, told from Cassie's POV (mostly because I didn't trust myself to write it from any other perspective.) It's not as long as I was hoping, either, but...meh.
Erin belongs to GG, Yukito belongs to Mascii/Elda, Kagayaki belongs to MtM, Cassie is mine.
Enjoy!
“Are we done yeeeeeeeet?” Erin whined loudly, fidgeting in her seat. Cassie sighed and rolled her eyes over at Silhouette, who along with Mrs. Spenser had spent what felt like days fighting an impatient Erin every step of the way as they struggled to do her hair and wrestle her into her bridal veil. “Patience, Iago,” said Si in an exaggerated deep voice as she tucked another hairpin into Erin’s hair.
“But this is taking forever!”
Cassie turned away, massaging her temples to ward off the headache she felt might be coming on and mentally promising herself that she would never act this way on her own wedding day. Hey, don’t be like that. This is for Erin, she reminded herself. Just try to get through this for Erin…she doesn’t mean it, and it’s her day, after all.
“It won’t be too much longer, querida, I promise…”
“That’s what you said ten minutes ago, Mami! I want to see myself!”
Cassie turned to face her friend again, smoothing out her own hair as she did so. “Erin, what day is today?”
Erin’s grin was infectious, and Cassie couldn’t help the smile that came over her own face. “My wedding day.”
“Don’t you want to look beautiful for Yukito?”
“What, is that a trick question?”
“Then stay still!”
Mrs. Spenser shot Cassie a grateful look as Erin immediately obeyed. “You’re gonna look amazing,” Cassie promised with a laugh as the team resumed their work.
A few minutes later they stepped away from the mirror to let the bride see the finished product. Cassie felt tears from at the corners of her eyes as she watched her friend gaze at herself in awe. Erin did look beautiful, a vision in white with Cassie and Si standing on either side of her in their midnight blue bridesmaid dresses. “Aww, Cassie!” Erin cried as she watched a tear slide down the cheek of the Cassie in the mirror. She turned to her, seizing her in a hug. “You’re gonna make me cry!”
Cassie smiled as she dabbed her eyes with a Kleenex. “Thank god for waterproof mascara!” she said through her tears.
Erin laughed, her own eyes tearing up as well. “I couldn’t have asked for a better maid of honor!”
Mrs. Spenser was crying too as she hugged each of the bridesmaids in turn. She paused in front of Erin, reaching out to touch her cheek tenderly. “You look beautiful, querida,” she said gently. “My beautiful daughter…I’m so proud of you…”
Cassie smiled, grabbing another tissue as she watched the mother and daughter. She was proud of the Spensers for accepting Erin’s decision to get married so early, no matter how difficult it must be for them to watch her go. I wonder whether she ever stops to realize what amazing parents she’s got…
“You’re a knockout!” came Si’s voice, cutting Cassie out of her reverie. She nodded her agreement just as Mr. Spenser poked his head through the door. “Knock-knock. I’ve come to see my daughter…” he paused, taking in the sight of all of them. “Or…maybe I should come back when there’s no more crying?”
This brought smiles to everyone’s faces again. “No, come on in, Mr. Spenser. I was just about to go check on the status of the groom…can’t deny the duties of the maid of honor forever, can I?” She slipped out of the room to let the family have their moment, heading down the hallway to where Yukito and the groomsmen had set up camp and were getting ready.
“Cassiechan!” came a familiar voice. Cassie couldn’t stop the grin that came over her face as she ran into Kagayaki’s waiting arms, placing a kiss on his lips. He set her down, still holding her hands in his as he looked at her. “You lrook beauful, Cassie,” he whispered. “Saikochan ready?”
Cassie nodded. “Yeah. She’s ready. How about Yukito?”
“Think so. He nerlvous, though. Siry Yuyukun.”
Cassie rolled her eyes. “Figures. Can I see him?”
Kagayaki laughed gently. “No girlrs, Cassiechan…” he told her, obviously very amused by her request.
She laughed again and walked past him, pulling him along behind her as they made their way down the hall. She opened the door to find a pacing Yukito inside, clad in a tux and looking very anxious.
He looked up as they came in. “I wasn’t aware this was a party.”
Cassie laughed. “Always. You ready?”
Yukito shrugged.
“Don’t be nervous, okay? It’ll all be fine, I promise. You have nothing to worry about. Just think of how you’re gonna feel when you see her walking down that aisle towards you. Don’t think about anything else. Just think of Erin, okay, Yukitokun?”
He nodded, giving her a grateful smile before smirking over at Aidousan. “Can she be my best man instead? She gives better advice.”
They laughed. “We should probably get back to Erin now, it’s probably just about time to start,” Cassie said, glancing over at Kagayaki. He looked confused. “We?”
“Of course, silly! We’re the best man and the maid of honor, you’ve got to walk me down the aisle! Didn’t he tell you?” she added, throwing a glance over at Yukito. He smirked at her. “You’re ridiculous,” she told him, giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Good luck!”
“So happy for Yuyukun and Saikochan,” Kagayaki remarked as they made their way back. Cassie paused and turned to face him. “So am I,”she said, wrapping her arms around his neck. “And it’ll be us next, I hope,” she added in a whisper only meant for him to hear.
When they met up with the rest of the bridal party at the back of the church, Erin captured Cassie in another bone-crushing hug. “Thank you for everything,” she whispered.
Cassie smiled through the tears that had come back to haunt her once again. “Don’t mention it. Now, go and meet your husband in there, Mrs. Maki,” she told her friend.
When Erin appeared and made her journey down the aisle, Cassie snuck a glance over at Yukito. The look on his face let her know in her heart, without a shadow of a doubt, that those two would be together forever. See, Erin? We were wrong all along, won’t we? Love does exist, and it can last—it’s right in front of you.
And someday, that’ll be me up there.
It was over almost before Cassie knew it—one moment she was watching as Erin’s dad gave her away and the next she was looking on as the couple prepared to dance their first dance as husband and wife. The opening chords of Lifehouse’s “You And Me” reached her ears and Cassie found herself crying all over again.
It wasn’t long before Aidousan dragged her out onto the dance floor, and Cassie was swept up in the never ending fun and busy air of the reception. Tears were shed, songs played, toasts drunk, memories and speeches made. Cassie had never seen Erin or Yukito look happier than they did that day, and their joy was contagious, especially when a very embarrassed Shelby was the one to catch the bouquet, to her dismay and everyone else’s delight.
“I’ll call you lots, okay?” Erin promised as she hugged Cassie goodbye. She laughed and shook her head. “Are you kidding me?” she asked. “You’ll be on your honeymoon, of course you won’t have time to call. I’ll be fine, don’t worry. Just have fun and give me a full report when you get back.” She snickered again and shot the couple a playful look. “Well, maybe not a full report, because there are things a person just does not need to know, but…” Erin squealed and clapped a hand over Cassie’s mouth. “Cassieee!”
Cassie grinned mischievously. “Blame the champagne,” she told Erin as Yukito leaned in to hug her goodbye as well. “We’ll see you soon. Take care of yourself until we get back, okay? In fact, you should probably try to take care of him, too, since he has shown he’s not the best at doing that himself,” he added, nodding towards Aidousan, who immediately began to protest loudly as the others laughed.
“Goodbye! Goodbye!” Cassie called as Erin and Yukito ran to their waiting car in a flurry of rice, tears running down her face for what seemed like the millionth time that day. She kept waving long after they had driven out of sight.
She turned to Kagayaki. “So…what do you say? One more dance?”
He didn’t speak, but his smile did. Laughing, they joined hands and ran back out onto the dance floor.
