Clarence scribbled down the his final notes for his math. With a sigh, he looked up at the clock on his bedroom wall. Seven o'clock. He'd been at this for several hours and felt bored out of his mind. But he was finally done with all what he expected to be next week's homework. He closed his book loudly and slipped it into one of the drawers of his desk.
And there came the steps down the hallway, like clockwork.
“Ren?” his mother's voice called.
Another sigh, and he didn't even have time to rise from his desk before she poked her head in the room. Her searching eyes found the room in perfect order, all his textbooks put away, and his computer screen clean – things she had always insisted on being done before seven, because that was when they ate dinner together. Clarence just stared up at her. "What?"
She beamed at him. “You done?” she questioned.
He sighed. "Yeah. Sure. Whatever."
“Ready for dinner?”
Clarence nodded again. “Yeah, mom. I'm ready.”
'Just tell me he's not waiting in the kitchen. I might stab him or something.'
